Lately...

Lately, originally uploaded by Theresa Di Moan.

Perfect for dancing, Fluevog Lately flats with a sophisticated T-Strap provide comfort without compromising style. Worn here with a pair of Hue's lingerie for feet and a strapless hot pink dress with original print by Cherry Blossom. Here is a closer look at the phenomenon:

Mood Indigo

Mood Indigo 02, originally uploaded by Theresa Di Moan.

There are only a few things originated in the 80's I can see myself doing again: loop earrings, leggings and the colour purple.

I found myself particularly intrigued by purple recently... It even got to the point of me obsessing over this pair of ankle strap sandals by Fluevog, and painting my toe nails with a matching purple nailpolish. The result on its own was near revolting, as it made my skin look so pale, my feet looked as if they belong to the nearest post-mortem freezer. Ouch! Nevertheless, with the slightly-punk-twist on a pair of Tango sandals, a bouquet of purple tulips and cheap but purposeful little purple handbag, I think I got my perfect purple look!

You'd never catch me with these wearing a purple dress, by the way, should not and would not be purple. Either my halter olive dress, brown shoulderless dress, or a pair of jeans with a muted dark but funky top.

Don't you love mood indigo?

Lately I've Been Lemming These Pointy Red Shoes

I really, REALLY need to get good dancing shoes. These might just do... Even though they are not "real" dancing shoes...

Friday Night - Window Shopping

I don't usually go shoe-shopping (or shall I say shoe window shopping?) on Friday. But I did so this Friday becasue of the Fluevog sample sale! These are the shoes I tried yesterday night at the sample sale at Fluevog's. Despite the pinty toes, they are so comfortable, the leather is buttery soft on your skin... Now I can't stop thinking of them!

Trendspotting: Sorta 80's Shiny Pointy Flats

When an entire decade, fashion-wise, groove comes the second time around, it can be a bit unnerving. This is probably due to two reasons:
1) It make you remember your crappy adolescence
2) It make you realize that you are probably considered old right now, because you were adolescent when all this yucky stuff came out, and you are the only one to be embarrassed when being reminded of those days...

Now, those bright neon leggings, mismatched colourful leather jackets, huge loop earrings and patent leather pointy boots might be cool if you've never seen them before (except for in Pretty in Pink and Wall Street); but if you worn that inferior trashy style when you were 13 and got your first pimple and was depressed because you mom didn't get why you want to dress like that, you won't find this whole 80's thing going on now to be quite a demeaning experience.

In the light of all of the above, it is quite refreshing to find things that could, theoretically, appear in the 80's and match that vulgar fashion phase, yet are just ever so slightly different, contemporarily graceful and elegant, and utterly wearable.

Such is the new "Shoe Family" from Fluevog - The 11th Hour. These shiny pointy flats are just so adorable you want to purchase them by the bulk, in all colours. They are made of an interesting hybrid between suede and patent leather, giving them the best of both worlds: the buttery softness of suede along the glamorous futuristic shine of patent leather. The patent leather treatment was applied to little diamonds on the suede, therefore retaining the flexibility and softness of that particular leather breed. They come in two designs - Tardy (balerina flat) and Lately (Mary Jane), ad in three appropriately bold colours: black, red and yellow.

Trying to make a point...

Trying to make a point..., originally uploaded by Theresa Di Moan.

I'm trying to make a point of Being strong. Being happy. Being beautiful.

This is what I wore today, and I hope my point is clear. I am enjoying life for what it is:
Patent leather kitten heel Mary Janes: Bronx
Fishnets: can't remember the brand...
Wool Coat: The Gap
Umbrella: The Umbrella Shop (hand made)
Little Black Dress: Jessica (I got it from a thrift shop ages ago and it's good as new and valid as ever).
The fabric here, although synthetic I suspect, has the fantastic texture of brushed silk. It's thick and it's fabulous, feels classy and solid). I usually would prefer to pair it with these shoes actually - the suede works better with it than the patent leather. I will tell you more about the suede wedges later, they really deserve a full entry onto themselves!
Here are some photos to give you an idea:

P.s. I was playing lots of dress up today, but decided to go with the patent leather shoes for a practical reason: I went for Salsa dancing tonight, and the wedges could not work for that!

In With The New!

Sandals, originally uploaded by Theresa Di Moan.

Was this too fast?!
Here are my new basic black & white sandals for this summer. A good comfy pair of black & white sandals is a must. Every single summer. For me anyways. I have some that are too fancy to be worn on an every day basis. But I obviously have a thing for black and white sandals...

These are completely flat and absolutely comfortable and adorable all at once. I love them with my sundresses (also usually in black and white or in beige or other neutral tones), but also with pants and with more contrasting or dramatic looks.

The little embroidered "f" stands for Fluevog - an original, funky shoe house originally from Vancouver. Unfortunately, the shoes are manufactured in Portugal. Seems to be the case with lots of shoe houses (like Gazith, who manufacture their shoes in Spain; there must be something about Spanish leather!). But at least I'm trying to buy local designs, right?

Cream...

Kecia Fluevog, originally uploaded by Theresa Di Moan.

I love these creamy loafers. Classy and simple and feminine. The nylons have little circles of silicone on the bottom (I'll show you another time) to prevent sliding. Peeling them off is one of my favourite way to spend my spare time... The bag is my gym bag. Nothing fancy, just a gift with purchase from Estee Lauder... The contrast of cream and white is definitley my all-time favourite, particularly with these sleek, lickable nylons.
