Gold Rush Make Up

Gold Rush Make Up, originally uploaded by Theresa Di Moan.

I've been in a crazy gold mood lately...
Not quite pure gold, more of a coppery tone, as well as shimmering nudes...
For make up here is what I used:
Foundation: the sheer and ever so flattering Aveda Tainted Moisture spf 15 in Sweet Tea
Lips: shiny and wet Aveda Lip Glaze in Kamara Fruit
For the eyes:
Annabelle Duo Eyeshadow Gel in Go-Diva
Bronze from the metallic Lise Watier compact, apply lines across from corner of eyes to outer side of eyebrows
Finish with Aveda Petal Essence Triple Accent in Gold Leaf / Geranium (below eyebrows and below lower lids - use only the gold end of the pencil of course!)

Up to here this is all pretty normal, but here comes the twist -

Cheeks: gold and bronze from Lise Watier metallic copact. This creates a slightly distrubing "diry cheeks" look, which I personally loved and found very interesting... Especially in comparison to the pale lips and neautral face overall. It's safe to try at home ;)

Tune in for the rest of the gold rush update tomorrow...

Perfect Red

When I stepped into the nearby Aveda salon last week in search for the perfect nude lipstick I left with a perfect nude gloss instead, plus a desire for the perfect red one. I had a bold red one from Shiseido for a while, but never find myself able to pull it off (left for the rare occasion when I'm called to replace characters such Angelina Jolie's in The Good Shepherd). This is not a lipstick per-se. It's a pencil with the pompous name Petal Essence Triple Accent. The particular colour I'm fond of is the Geranium side of the Gold leaf-Geranium pencil. The makeup artist has informed me that this is the exact red tone worn by the women in WWII (the ones that were free enough to get pretty, that is). It is designed to look good pretty much with any skin tone and even without foundation it looks amazing. And surprisingly, does not make your lips stick out or look out of place. Aside from getting used to applying lipstick with a pencil and having a sharpener handy, it's great - creamy-smooth and surprisingly easy to apply. I love it!

P.s. as far as the gold-leaf side of the pencil (intended for the eyes), the colour is great and interesting (gold is in, after all...), but the texture, ahum, reminds me of those first attempts of me applying "makeup" when I was 4 years old, but trying to smear crayons on my eyelids.

Absolute Favourite Femme Fatale Makeup!

Found this Kohl version of Guerlain at Shoppers Drug Mart today, and everything about it is just fabulous. The packaging, the kohl... The fact that it's so readily portable in a purse or a pocket. And it's not too expensive either. I almost forgot all about kohl. Definitley the best way to add make up to my eyes. SOmething I discovered at the age of 10 when we had to dress up like bedouins for a class project. All the girls wore face covers, and I brought this kohl and got all of them to accentuate their beautiful eyes - the only thing that left of our faces!
On another note, I thought I'd share with you two other favourite eye make up of mine:
Bad Gal Lash mascara from Benefit (the tagline for this is that it's like false eyelashes, pretty close!).
And last but not least - Shiseido's Liquid Eyeliner Pen- it comes with cartridges! No need to dip in the brush, you just press a button on top to squeeze more "ink". It makes the most perfect lines ever, as the brush has just the right shape and thickness. Perfect for a 1940's- 1950's movie star look! It's the most expensive makeup I've ever bought, but there is no way of going back now. It's the best eyeliner. Ever.
